Oil pressure switch

Post by Swanybawanie » Sat May 22, 2021 6:56 am

Is a oil pressure switch needed to hook to the oil pressure gauge? Someone hooked the copper tubing from the oil pressure gauge straight to the oil filter.

An electric gauge needs a variable resistance pressure sensing switch to send a signal to the gauge, moving the needle. A mechanical gauge uses tubing to bring the oil under pressure to the gauge where a a bulb exerts pressure on a spring inside the gauge to move the needle to show pressure. Since you have tubing to your gauge, you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, no switch is needed.

Your mechanical oil pressure gauge was probably originally threaded directly into the oil filter base. Someone may have preferred to have it closer to the operator and installed the line to hook it up. Should work ok either way.

Hi,

All that switch did is turn on the hour meter.

The gauge is mechanical and hooks to the base of the oil filter.
