Parts missing from my 420

Post by Lu47Dan » Sun Apr 06, 2008 1:22 pm

Well I finally got my manuals and started going through the parts manual to see what small parts that are missing . I have not found a lot of missing parts but the ones that are are definitely not cheap .
So far what I have found missing are all the cowl and hood fasteners , the upper spring off the throttle shaft and governor control , the correct air cleaner hose and the correct bolt for the air cleaner clamp . JDParts has some of the items , and they want gold prices for them :( .
Now to the question , has anyone bought the Studs (JD# M315T) Item #3 page 85-10 in the 420 parts manual from John Deere ? And If you have are they the correct type ? Reason I ask is the drawing on JDParts shows a round headed fastener instead of a flat head . I see it will be expensive to replace all the fasteners but I would rather spend the money and not have the ends of the all thread the other people who had it used to hold the hood and cowling on the Crawler .
Or does anyone know of a source of them other than John Deere ?
Now to the Throttle spring and the governor spring , (JD# M 1853 T) since they are the same part # and I am missing one of them should I replace the one on the governor assembly to make sure that the springs are the same weight and length or just use the information from the description to check the existing spring , the springs are $24.99 each . While doing that I figure to replace the friction disc's (JD# M1860T)on the lever also , and I am hoping the throttle lever will stay where you set it .
The air cleaner hose (JD#M3285T)is available from John Deere also and will needs to be replace as it is just a piece of ill fitting radiator hose right now . It is $67.50 but should last a long time so at least it will fit correctly
Any information on other sources for parts would be gladly accepted .
Lavoy , Do you have any of the parts above ?

I have most of the stuff on hand, I would be short on a few pieces, few day delay to get more in. Don't buy the air cleaner hose, that is outrageous.

Lavoy,

What would you recommend as a cheaper source for the air cleaner hose? That is absurd, no way they can justify that price with logic and integrity.

Not sure what the intake hose is you are needing, but if it is like the one on my LP M670 Minne-Moline I am thinking of using a piece of exhaust tubing and a couple of flexable adapters like these.

Lavoy , I had thought it was a little high on the price , will send you a list of what I need once I get it finished . I bought five feet of suction hose for a lot less than that . I figured the price on it would get a raise out of someone .
JD440 , I agree with you on that
shinnery , I am going to build a metal tube from copper fittings , since plumbing and steamfitting is what I do for a living ,I just happen to have enough 2" copper pipe and have a 2" street 90 in my inventory . Solder them together , polish it up , and give it a coat of clear it should stay nice and shiny for quite awhile . I will have to do some more reading on those silicone fittings to find out the lengths . Thanks for the link .
Thanks guy's Dan
