Hello All,
This summer I became the owner of a JD1010 industrial diesel crawler loader with ripper. Other than spending 2hrs fixing for every 8hrs work, it has done the job grading and building my 1200ft driveway.
I'm a NOOB on crawlers. I can turn a wrench, but I am no pro. I'm looking forward to talking with y'all, as I learn to tame the beast.
My first question, is tools. Other than the obvious wrenches and sockets etc, what have you found to be the MOST useful tools to have to keep one of these rigs ship-shape? Having bought a 60's era machine, you can probably tell i haven't got a lot of money, so gimme the MUST-haves.

Really big hammer/s, torch, lots of patience, several gullible friends, an extensive vocabulary ( this will develop over time anyhow), well stocked liquor cabinet, big box of bandaids, and lots lots more.

Nice loader,
Lavoy covered it perfectly except for having another loader to pick up all the heavy parts

I need that ripper!!Anybody got a ripper set-up for a 1010 or 350????

I haven't seen very many scarifiers. Mine has a slow leak in one or both hydraulic cylinders. I think the seals are shot. You can see i'm holding it up with a strap. Right now I'm in the process of replacing all the hoses on it.
I'm the most worried about the rollers, and the tracks themselves - all working but worn. the plates on one side have been built up with a welder, and the other is just about bald. It has street pads to begin with and doesn't grip well on really rough or steep terrain. I understand this is a very spendy part of the machine. Not to mention parts availability.

Biggest problem that I have learned from this site is the 1010 sprockets.Hard to find and very pricey when found!!!!If you do a search or ask around on here,you will find out that a 350 conversion is the way to go when replacing a 1010 undercarriage.This would require welding on 350 prockets to your hubs and converting the chains (rails) to 350.Where are you located if I may ask???If you get a chance,update your profile with location.There might be someone on here close to you with parts for you particular machine.I have a 1010 with a nice undercarriage that I may part out????

After looking at your pics several times,I have to ask about your undercarriage???Is it just the pads and rollers that you need??Your pics show plenty of adjustment left on you rails which would make me believe that the pins/bushings/rails are in good shape???It's very hard to tell with your pics.Throw us some close ups for a better evalution. Keith
