I'm not new to JD 2 cylinders, but never had a crawler. Carb is missing but everything else looks to be there. Any tips or opinions on a 440 gas is appreciated.

I would fix the seat first, the one that's on there looks very uncomfortable! At least the pads and grousers look very good, if the undercarriage is in great shape that a definite plus!!

The under carriage looks pretty good to me. Still has a good bit of slide left and sprockets look good. Idk about the rest of it though. I need a some dry weather on a weekend to check it out all the way. That dang backhoe looks as heavy as the rest of it.

If the price's right (basically scrap iron price or less), I'd drag it home right away and look it over in my shop.

But....there's got to be a major reason it's parked like that. How long has it sat? A major something let go and the rest will need work from the looks of it. Still, the basics are there. Most likely will need to be completely tore down and fix what ever needs it.

Looks like a 51 slider hoe. Yeah, they be heavy.

I would bring it home and strip it into little bitty parts. Then, I would know what was wrong, fix it and reassemble.

A little odd to see grousers with a Hoe, but I guess the smoother tracks are with the loaders rather than the hoe. Is that the reverser lever on the wrong side?

I'd say if you have time and the price is right save that old 440. Like everyone said, it probably needs completely disassembled.

Shinnery that lever is for the hydraulics for the blade if I'm not mistaken. On the gas 440 the hydraulic valve body was mounted up in the area whereas on a diesel it was all mounted on the fender. I think this is because the diesel pushed the fuel tank back farther toward the instrument panel so there wasn't room for the valve body.
