I didn't know snow was that abrasive. The track adjusters are all the way out.

Lavoy,
Should I be taking special care of mine since I'll only be pushing snow???

Snow is very abrasive, but not on the pads, that one looked like it had been run on concrete all its life. Snow will greatly accelerate wear on other components of the undercarriage, but for the average guy, it is not really relavant. If you were running hundreds of hours per year, then it might be.
4 roller full size idler is 32 links, and that is what I count on this one. Judging by idler position, pins and bushings have to be way out. Look closer at the pads on the bottom, then it becomes more obvious when you see the large gap.

THIS 420C IS EQUIPPED WITH THE OPTIONAL OVERSIZE IDLER WHEELS, EACH TRACK CONTAINS 32 SHOES (14") & LINKS, SO THE ADJUSTERS ARE MAXIMIZED OUT TO ACHIEVE THE 1-1/2" SAG, THANKS FOR YOUR OPINION, THE SELLER IS NOT MAD.

IN-ADDITION, THE PINS, BUSHINGS, & LINKS ARE ALL WITHIN SPEC. AND THE SHOES ARE AT HALF LIFE PER SAY LOCAL JOHN DEERE TECH. ON LAST SERVICE.

Idler is not out to maximize sag, it is drastically past the position that you would ever normally run the idler at if the components were in factory spec.
Pads are JUNK, not sure what your local tech is telling you, but maybe he should read the John Deere Undercarriage Manual #SP-326 which states a grouser height of .75 inches to be 100% worn.
