Picked up decent running 70s 350 crawler loader,which needs lots of routine mt.
Had to fix dash gauges,lights,switches,main harness,etc.etc. But alternator#
AT21808 22AMP MOTOROLA,was not producing voltage. Took off and it spins free,assume it needs brushes,but cannot find a place to get them.
Anyone know a place with decent prices that would have them?

Actually I have issues other than the brushes,on taking it apart,they are ok.
So I retested wires to alt,main output wire has only bat voltage-
feild (green) has 12.6 with key on,but on connecting to alt ,drops to ~4v-
gnd(black) has no continuity to gnd when regulator is connected,but with key on it has 12.6v-
aux(yellow)has 12v with key on,but~3v when plugged to alt.
Don't think ground wire should have 12.6 volts from reg.
I disconnected all main wires and hooked field terminal to 12v jump box,output has box voltage running,aux maxes out at ~2v or so.
Sure would be nice to find a built in reg alt,eliminate stock voltage reg,wire field to key on ,ground it and hook up output.

Why not just replace it with a one wire 10SI Delco. They are readily available at most auto parts stores for well under $100.

Took your idea, picked up a 10si1w and it fit the bracket w no mods. Had to locate a 5/8 pulley to fit and used a 3.1 in dia, for less than $100 bucks. Taped up all the excess wires,hooked up the output. Started tractor and had nothing,until revved up a bit,then has more than enough power for anything you want to wire up when exciter kicked in.

I realize you already replaced the alternator. A few comments anyway. All the parts are easily available from many generic sources. The original setup on your crawler used a separate remote-mounted regulator. Also - all alternators on Deere tractors have brushes. Replacing with a 10SI - or better yet - a Delco 12SI is fine but will not be as durable as the Motorola. The OEM Motorola alternator is sealed from dust and has full ball bearing support. The Delco 10SI or much better 12SI is NOT sealed and does not have ball bearings in the back. Deere tried using them for a short period of time with add-on dust-cages but they did not hold up well.
You can buy brand new replacement, sealed, HD Bosch or Hitachi replacement alternators for Deere crawlers with internal regulators for $85. That's brand new, not rebuilt and dust sealed.

For anybody that feels the need to fix the OEM alternator on Deere crawlers - the 22 amp sealed HD Motorola alternator is now made by Prestolite (formerly Leece-Neville). Prestolite bought all the rights to the alternator from Motorola many years ago.
The 22 amp on a 350 was a Motorola TA12N series and was replaced with the 30 amp 8TA2009EE. All parts are available from Prestolite or aftermarket places like Transpo.
The original remote mounted Deere voltage regulator was Motorola R2J1, RS2J1, or 8RD2017. It is also available aftermarket. It is a 12 volt B-circuit type and even some NAPA Echlin units will work if you change the wire-plug. For a direct replacement - a Transpo M5-216 is the correct unit. Fits many Deere crawlers and farm tractors. A new regulator can be found for $25.
The sealed Motorola alternators usually just need a new set of $10 brushes and mabye a pair of generic $15 ball bearings.
That being said - you can buy a brand new, modern dust-sealed, internally regulated HD alternator with full ball bearing support inside for $75-$85 if you shop around.

Actually a delco alternator from NAPA is less than $50. (70 amp)

I don't believe it. Not outright and not new, for sure.
A "rebuilt" 78 amp Delco from NAPA is $100 outright or $70 if you trade in an old one. A brand new 78 amp Delco from NAPA is $95.
If a Delco 10SI is what someone wants - you can buy a brand-new one with the self-exciting "one wire" regulator installed for $68 from DB Electric.
A Delco SI series is fine for occaisional use in a crawler but not very good for hard use where there is lots of dust. It's an open-air alternator and dust chews up the brushes and cheap needle bearing in back pretty fast. It is also bulky and does not fit in many tractors. No problem in a Deere crawler though.
Hey, to each his own. I've got buckets full of 10SIs and the better 12SIs. I can buy more for $15 each and the one-wire regulator new only costs $10. So they can be easily thrown together for $25. That wasn't my point.

About your claims about NAPA. NAPA is a franchise and has standard part #s and prices for NAPA authorized parts. But - NAPA store owners can also sellother things that do not come directly from NAPA. So, yeah - you can travel the country and find all sorts of things at stores with a NAPA sign out front. A friend of mine owns the local NAPA store here and sells many parts that come from totally different sources.
Now -with the many new alternators sold as "Delco 10SIs." Technically that are not. They are Chinese clones and copies. That does not make them inferior - but they are not actually Delco 10SIs.

I made a few simple points that are accurate. I'm not telling anyone what to do or what I claim is best. Just offering info and options with facts.
If you have an OEM sealed Motorola alternator -you CAN get all the parts fairly cheap to fix if you want. The Motorola or Leece Neville/Prestolite is much more durable than any Delco 10SI or 12SI - from Delco Remy or clones. Working steadily in dust tears up the Delcos. I'm not saying that matters to everyone - but it is true, just the same.
John Deere Co. tried using the Delcos for a few years on agricultural equipment along with added debris-screen guards. It did not work and they were short lived. Deere switched to Bosch, NippoDenso and Hitachi. All of which have full ball bearing support. The Delco 10SI and 12SI series does not.
