repair to 440 cast nose

Post by bister » Tue Jun 13, 2006 3:39 pm

The heavy cast front nose on my 440 has broken mounting brackets. I'm not sure if this nose is cast iron or cast steel. Most of each bracket is OK but the brackets are broken off where the bolt hole was drilled. (so just the very end of each bracket is broken off). Does anyone know of a good fix for this. Thanks.

I think it is cast iron unfortunately, so not an easy fix.

Machinery hand book recomends brazing for the repair of cast iron, and I've had good luck with it. If one prefers welding a Palco 808 is a good cast rod that I've used, however there is a ton of ways to repair cast iron the way that suits You is the best.
