Question for Lavoy

Post by Bob Pannell » Mon Apr 17, 2006 2:34 pm

My 440icd sat all winter.I got her out last week and found that the clutch is slipping badly in foward gear under no load. When I shift the reverser to reverse it backs right up with no problems.I shift to foward again and this time it stops and i smell clutch burning. Is it in the reverser clutch pack(needs adjusting) or the engine clutch? What do you think?

Sounds like the reverser, but you would not smell it unless there is no oil in it. While it is slipping, push on the reverser lever, that will put a little more pressure on the plates. Also, if it does not snap in like it should, I would adust it anyhow.
