3315 Winch value?
3315 Winch value?
I came across a guy with a 3315 winch and I need some advice on a fair value. The guy said the winch has been sitting in the weeds close to 15 years so I'm sure it is in poor condition. My 350B isnt set up for a winch, Other than the pto shaft what else would I need to make this work?

Does the winch still have a round control valve attached to the back of it? If not, you are probably going to have a problem finding one. Other than the valve, there's just the control cable and lever. Deere doesn't have the lever kits anymore either so you'll have to make your own. On my 450, I rigged up a salvaged hydraulic control lever and bought a control cable from http://www.midwestcontrol.com. The lever's mount and cable holddown are just bolted right into the back of the battery box. This works nice because it's easy to run the lever from the seat or when standing next to the winch.
If there are lines coming out, then it probably has a spool valve instead of the rotary valve. The rotary valve didn't use any lines, it just bolted right into the winch. Are the lines just unhooked, or do they go to a spool valved bolted on below the filter? The spool valve is not available from Deere anymore either, but you should be able to find something that would work. I didn't know they used the spool valve on 350s though. Are you sure it's a 3315 and not a 3325 off of a 450?
As for the price, I'm not sure. I've seen complete units in working condition advertised for $1500, and AS-IS-IN-THE-WEEDS ones advertised for $500. Those were asking prices though.
Looking at the side of the winch were the hyd filter is, there is one hose on the left of the filter and 3 on the right side3 of the filter. There is no valve there. The winch has a tag on it that has 3315 and a serial # on it.

Well, having no control valve is kind of a hang-up, unless you can find a used one.

In theory, you could rig up two independent off-the-shelf spool valves. One locking log-splitter-type valve to control the brake cylinder and one normal valve to run the clutch. Depends on how much you like cobbling things.

I may end up trying to rig something up. I would much rather find the correct parts for it. I'm going to try work out a deal with the guy in the next few days and keep looking for other parts as well. Some machines have a pto disconnect lever, does anyone know if that is required when using a winch?

I hope I'm not leading you astray on adding the PTO shaft. I don't have any real experience with 350s, but I assume it's just a kit that can be added to any 350B. I've been wrong plenty of times though. Maybe someone with a 350B can comment. Ideally, you could find a powershaft and the winch for sale together as a package. I know I've seen them for sale together before.

I just called the guy in TN and he dosent have the control valve or anything else to go with the winch. I'm going to find out tonight what the guy wants for the winch here, He has a complete diesel engine i'm going to try to get as well. I dont need it but, I might need it in the future.

Well here is the winch fresh out of the weeds. I know it is rough but, on a plus side I got a log arch with it. Can anyone tell by the pictures witch control valve it would take? Anybody have a control valve that they would part with? Also looking for the winch pto drive shaft. As always any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

Nice logging arch! I've been looking for one for my 450 for a long time, but they're pretty hard to come by.
That's definitely set up for a spool control valve (not the rotary one). In order to make a rotary valve fit, you would need to re-route the lines since they all need to come out of the housing right by the filter in a tight pattern.
As for the lines coming out there, the one all by itself on the left of the photo is the pressure line coming from the hydraulic pump, the two on the right are for the activating the clutch and deactivating the brake. If you pull that side cover off, you'll see which is which. The return line back to the reservoir is the one coming out of the oil filter mount.
Both the clutch and brake lines require 1000psi to activate. In Freespool mode, the brake line should be at 1000psi. In Wind mode, both the brake line and the clutch line should be at 1000psi. In brake mode, nothing is activated. Sounds simple doesn't it? Too bad there's just not a lot of call for a valve that does that.
You could talk to someone who knows hydraulics to see if you could rig up two of these together:

The second valve would be hooked to the clutch line and also be set to 1000psi but the detent release pressure turned very low or off because you won't want to lock your clutch ON. It seems like it would work. Either that or it will explode, I'm not sure
