Purchased a 440icd with a 6 way blade
Hello All, I wanted to announce that I have a 440icd with a 6 way blade featuring the 2010 diesel engine. She has some small issues that will need to be worked through hopefully with the help from the folks on here with experience. I wanted to say that I for one am so thankful that a forum like this exist to help with the " been there, done that" issues that come up from working with equipment that is no longer supported by its maker. More to come as I get my hands dirty. Thanks to all...

Congrats!
I would enjoy seeing pictures of your 440 ICD, especially close ups of the retro fit of the 2010 diesel in the GM 2-53 slot.

You may want to search some posts on this site about retrofitting 2-cylinder crawlers with larger engines. I believe those kind of horsepower upgrades are pretty hard on driveline components such as transmissions and final drives.

Great point!
Basically the drivelines (tranny, clutches, finals, etc) were designed for the torque and HP of the factory engine. For instance, the 440ICD was designed to handle 30 HP and 100 FPT that the fresh GM 2-53 as speced by JD will produce. Much more HP and torque than that and using it under a load will produce profits for parts suppliers, if you can find all of the parts that need to be replaced.
I look forward to seeing the pictures.

440icd
I am on a mini vacation in Branson but here is a few snapshots I got just before I left it.
It is definately a 2010 JD engine but I could be wrong on the model of dozer. Im a little confused on that as it doesnt quite look like the 450 since the fuel tank is directly over the engine. Everything appears to be factory.

Thanks for the pics. It is not a 440. It would be very difficult to retro a 4 cylinder diesel engine in to a 440 without major surgery and lots of money.
I am not as familar with the 1010 and 2010 but I am guessing it is one of those.
The ROPS on there is good to keep the sun off and push a few light limbs away, but I don't think I would trust it in the unlikely roll over.
Keep us current with pictures and fire away with your questions, there are folks on here that can get the answers for you.

2010
I appreciate that as now I know what service manual to find. The previous owner was a school district and they scabbed on the sun roof and pipe on top of the blade. I plan on eventually taking all of that off to get it back to the original look and paint. I plan on working on it all this weekend, getting fuel and hydraulic lines rebuilt, filters ect.. One problem that it has right now is antifreeze in the cylinders. I drained the case and radiator before I left on vacation to dry out the engine and will run some K and W back into it to seal up any leaks in that system. It has some hydraulic fluid leaking from a few cylinders which need repacking. Other than that, she has good brakes and rails need a little adjusting. Will have better pics and progress report shortly... Thanks fellows..
FYI, the parts and service manuals for the 2010 are for the bare crawler (i.e. no loader or dozer blade assemblies). You will have to get the parts manual supplement that covers the dozer blade if you want to see the internal parts to replace the packing on your hydraulic cylinders.
With regards to coolant leakage into the cylinders, I think someone else had some luck with additives to stop leakage but you may be looking at some more extensive effort and cost if that doesn't work (I'm sure you are aware of that). However are you sure you don't have coolant in your engine oil also? If so, I would get the engine oil out of there as quickly as possible to avoid ruining the main and connecting rod bearings.
