We have another question about the transmission on our 1010 dozer.
Is the PTO/power shaft supposed to turn at all times?
We replaced the broken shifting fork and are quite certain we got it all back together properly, but it doesn't appear to go into 'neutral.
If we have something wrong, will it hurt to have the powershaft turning all the time?

Hi,
No, it's not supposed to turn all the time. The lever is supposed to pull the dog gears apart.
Now, if it's turning only very slowly with the lever in the 'out' position, and a whole lot faster with it in the 'in' position, then there's some gear lube drag going on and that won't hurt anything.
But, if it's truly engaged all the time, and someone gets some loose clothing near that naked shaft, then it is going to hurt - a lot - for sure!
Since I rarely use the PTO on my 420c, I keep the tube cover attached so in case the lever mistakenly gets engaged, nothing bad is going to happen....
