I removed the final and found a black sticky oily mess, everything was coated. the shaft from the trans which goes through the throw out bearing has ALOT of play in it, i can move it up and down almost a 1/4 inch.
can someone tell me what is wrong? can i get to this shaft bearing and seal with removeing the casing that the throw out bearing shaft is in?
Can someone tell me what they found to clean the black oily mess off of these parts? I sprayed almost a can of carb. cleaner and it did not do much. thanks Paul
thanks Paul

Get a couple cans of Easy-off oven cleaner, not the low odor stuff, the really smelly gas mask kind. Spray it on, let is work for a while, rinse off with hot water and repeat as necessary. The other option is some of the engine degreasers, or something like Simple Green. The problem is, that old gear lube, mixed in with brake/clutch dust, and whatever dirt got in there, makes a really big mess. If you have access to a steam cleaner, that is the best option. A
