Hi-
First of all, you may find that some posters won't see this down here in the Buy-Sell-Trade- you may want consider also posting up in the early- or late model forums.
You have done what I consider the most important first step which is identifying your needs for the crawler.
It sounds based on your needs that you may not need a loader and a dozer blade may suffice- it depends on whether you plan on felling trees with the crawler or loading trucks. If not, a dozer with winch may do it.
A good "all around" size smaller crawler is the 350s. They are small enough to be trailered without a CDL (depending on truck and trailer setup) and get into tighter spaces but have enough power (around 40-50 HP) to pull medium sized felled trees and push dirt on trails.
You also didn't say whether you are partial to JD or other brands. Age does play an important role in parts availability. JD has fairly decent support for older crawler, although pricey, but some parts can be obselete/not available, especially on pre-70 crawlers. If you are worried about that, you are probably better to sticking to a 350 series crawler as they are more common and parts can be cheaper.
I am not pushing the 350, but sounds it is about what you are looking for, not having photos to see the terrain and trees you are dealing with.
There are a number of posts on here about selecting crawlers- you can do a search to get some additional answers or feel free to ask more questions.
