Anybody know where I could acquire one for a mid-50's era John Deere Model 420 crawler?

They should be readily available. . .

Im sure Lavoy could hook you up with a good used or rebuilt one, Ive also seen them listed on E-Bay from time to time.

Do you need the complete stub shaft unit, housing and all, to bolt up to the back? Make sure the three ears (the bolts pass thru for mounting) on your housing have not been broken/repaired if you are paying a premium price.

I have some used pieces around left over from my wheel tractor projects (basically the same parts). Id ask $50 for just the PTO shaft, $150 for a shaft and good unbroken housing. The seals/bearings are readily available for a rebuild from John Deere and aftermarket suppliers.

Good Luck! Dave
