455G track pins
Hey guys, newbie here. Im just wondering how big of a job replacing track pins and sprockets is. Are there some basic tools that would let me do this job myself? Or is this best left to a specialized shop to do? Im a machinist so I can make things for myself. Interested to hear what you guys have done in the quest to avoid a field service call!

Hi Lavoy-Lavoy wrote:Sprockets are no real big deal, just kind of a pain. Split the track at the master pin, unbolt the old sprocket, replace with the new one, replace master pin.
If you mean all the track pins as in pins and bushings, that requires a track press, no easy way to do it.
How critical do you think the torque values are for sprocket bolts? I noticed that for my crawler (2010) that the sprocket bolts are supposed to be torqued to 450 ft-lbs or something like that. Do you just use a 1" air impact and crank away, or if you did by hand would you need to get a torque multiplier tool or just a very large breaker bar and put all you have into it?

The parts guy showed me on his computer what the sprocket looked like and it was a flat cog. Is that pressed onto the domed center piece? Or do the bolts go through both pieces in order to drive the cog? The parts guy wasnt much help but I do understand theres many different machines out there! Sounds like I can take the track apart at the master link and then just take them to a shop to have the bushings turned? Do the pins were out too?
