Detroit oil pressure

Post by Howard Yoder » Sun Feb 12, 2006 6:23 pm

What kind of oil pressure should the 253 run after it has worked for an hour or two. Mine drops almost to nothing like around 10. When i first start it it reads around 45. Thanks

I asked the area detroit rep about this once his answer was you had better be using 50 weight in summer the 53 series had a verry poor oil pump to begin with .A new pump is not much better than an old one.The detroit book says 6 pounds minimum pressure but I would not idle at this for long if it was my motor My two detroit s use shell rotela t 50 weight only The only motors I use shell in and nothing else uses 50 weight I guess try this as this thing says all 53-71-92 & 110 series motors This pretty well covers all two strokes I guess? digitup

Thanks for the reply I always try to let it idle fast enough to at least carry 10 pounds but am going to switch oil. I'm going to try a strait 30 weight and if that do it then I well try the 50. Thanks again.
