Help with starter.

Post by indytriker » Fri Aug 14, 2009 2:57 pm

I have a JD 450CA, serial # claims it to be a 1982. It has a 4 way clam shell loader and a 9300 hoe. My problem is how to get to the starter. My starter spins when I turn on the battery disconnect so I assume the solenoid contacts are stuck closed. I can't start engine because of this so how do I get in to the engine compartment with the loader on the ground? I do have a 23hp Kubota with a front loader which I attempted to lift the loader to no avail. (That thing is heavy!) Any replies appreciated.

I agree with KenP on releasing the pressure and blocking the cylinders. I live in the woods and don't have another tractor so I use the trees. I wrap a chain around two trees about 12 feet apart and 15 feet off the ground and use a chain hoist suspended from the chain to lift the bucket or any thing else that is heavy on my machine. You may need to tow the machine into position.

Any reason why you can't just unhook the power-wire from the injection pump, and then . . . just let the engine crank while you raise the loader? I've raised many that way, just using the spin-force from the starter motor.
