1010 Gas Air cleaner warning

Post by Ed1010c » Sun Jan 11, 2009 3:23 pm

I have a 1010 gas crawler with the factory oil bath air cleaner. The metal mesh material inside the air cleaner deteriorated with age. A piece broke away and got sucked into the intake and destroyed the number 1 piston. The new piston was $135 from deere, with the piston ring set and gaskets it was an expensive repair. Fortunately the cylinder wall was not scored. Before running it after repairing it I made a new air cleaner unit using an aftermarket automotive air cleaner and some hoses and exhaust pipe adaptors from Advance Auto Parts. Anyone running one of these should take a look at the condition of the air cleaner material to avoid this problem...
