I guess you don't need to be a rookie to fry a clutch pack I got handed a 544H loader the other night with a sick transmission {let the boss blow it up]I watched the trans oil pressure and the trans oil temp gauges like crazy for hours all was going well loading trucks it was only snow so it's not hard to load but I noticed the pressure dropping on the forward side I came to a rolling halt in front of the shop 5 hours later.I guess it is easy to do even if you are watching the gauges and know what you are looking at .We got the transmission apart this afternoon and the inner clutch piston on the forward side lost it's seal so the mile plus to the shop heated the faces and warped them .I noticed the temp gauge spike a bit while roading it to the shop that was my down fall .I stopped to open the door and had to push it in the bay.The reverser on a crawler is the same basic unit and when they decide to go they go quickly .Haven't fried one for years but I sure barbecued it at 15 below the other night .So for the clutch pack wreckers club out there heck I joined back up Thursday night !!Digitup.

I once toasted an over the fence highway mower, the machine has a power divider for the mower attachment and a gear box for power reduction decided to lockup,I shut it down within a few seconds but cooked the divider anyway, not a good day.
I didn't know front end loader reversers were similiar to the crawler unit,I learn something new everyday!!

they are two inches bigger around to take the torque but the same build all round other than that .Deere decided on the H series loaders that they would save money and make the pistons of a plastic fiber compound so while frying the forward plates I cooked the forward piston and so the mess goes.I knew it was going I guess I wanted to get maximum life out of it .Like my crawler dozers a wheel loader gets a lot more wear on the forward clutches than the reverse clutches they are the first to go we will rebuild all three clutch packs when in there . I just bought two new backhoes and they didn't get my old ones on trade so the loader can have some down time . Digitup .
