450B clutch finger question.

Post by special tool » Sun Jul 13, 2008 12:42 pm

Hi guys - new here.
Found the link on HEF.
I did search thoroughly in the archives for answer to the following problem...

Any of you guys know, if it is at possible to adjust pressure plate finger tension on JD 450B through inspection hole??

Machine slips slightly on left and it is on a job and I don't know if I can get it up the ramps of the tag.
Local mechanic just did new clutches, and they are adjusted all the way and still slips.
The idiot used old PP springs or didn't adjust the fingers right, or something.
He doesn't forget to call me when he wants a check, though.

Thanks.

Make sure you have enough freeplay in the clutch to start with, that could be the problem. I think you might be able to adjust the pressure plate if you pulled the larger top of the clutch housing off, but not through the inspection hole. Plus, it will still be difficult to get a guage in there to verify the finger height, although you could wing it to at least get it loaded.

Thanks, man.
That is the compromise I was suggesting to my old man.
Maybe I have to remove tank assembly and main top of housing might allow enough elbow room.
