350B Power Steering Oil getting into Engine Oil

Post by everetk » Thu Jul 03, 2008 7:46 pm

Our 350b is Is getting oil from the power steering reservoir into the crankcase. Power steering pump has been rebuilt. Small return line was clogged, and has been cleared. Anyone have any ideas?

Seems the only place oil can get into the engine is through the shaft-seal on the power-steering pump. If it's still leaking, it's not fixed. When you say the pump was "rebuilt" -what exactly does that mean? The parts to truly rebuild one of those little 2 GPM pumps have not been available for many years. A new pump via Deere Co. cost $1400.

Yes, you can patch one up if not worn badly -and some metal parts are still available (but expensive). If all someone did was put a new oil seal in the pump - that's barely a patch job at best and not a fix. The oil seal is not designed to withstand high oil pressure - and if the shaft or shaft-bearings, or centerhousing, or gear faces get worn and/or scored - it's going to let pressure oil get to the front seal and leak.

Check to see if your problem would be pressure regulator valve it may have been the problem from the begining and just too much pressure and you think it is the seals check it out I have been there several weeks ago and the pressure regulator valve was all it was .Digitup.
