450-B has little or no reverse
i would greatly appreciate any guidence. we have a 450-B with a 4in 1 drott bucket. the main problem is it will not move in reverse with any kind of load. does not want to even back up a slight incline on its own. you can put it in low or hi 1st and push fine under load. my father is the main operator but what little i have been on it when youlet the clutch out all the way you can put your foot on the footboard and then within a couple of seconds it starts to move forward or reverse depending on which is selected. it steers fine. is the problem in the hi low reverse portion or does this seem to be an adjustment problem in the linkage somewhere. any information would be greatly appreciated. the main clutch and pressure plate are fine. i have very little knowledge of crawlers/dozers, more knowledge with tractors.
There are speed of shift adjustments as well as other adjustments. There is an adjustment inside the clutch housing that sometimes backs off. This will cause similar problems. It could be internal leakage as well. You will need a service manual to make adjustments properly. It is critical that they are done right to avoid doing any damage not already done. Remember......each time you try to move it in reverse you are potentially taking life off the clutch discs since they are slipping. The same goes for the sluggish forward shifting.
If it will push foward in both ranges-- spin the tracks -- stall the motor--I would say your problem is not adjustments sounds like reverce clutch pack is shot it would not hurt to go through all the adjustments but I don't think it will fix problem might be sealing rings in oil manifold but usually if one of them is leeking it goofs up one of the foward ranges also have fun Randy
