New Member, 350BB questions

Post by MJBlades » Sun May 26, 2013 9:36 pm

Hello fellow JDCrawler message board members. First time joining a forum or message board after almost 15 years on the internet. First a thank you to Lavoy for hosting such an awesome site and all the dedicated knowledgeable members on this board for all your helpful info for the rest of us. I have been enjoying checking out the sight and learned quite a bit so far. Need to learn a lot more for sure! I'm looking forward to hearing your responses and maybe I can help you with some horticulture/agriculture or computer related info.

Just purchased a 1974, 350BB diesel crawler loader a month or so ago. Finally got it to a friend's farm close to home to be able to start working on it. :D Yes I'm a happy camper for now!

First question is really just a curiosity. What is the difference between a 350B and a 350BB?

I am expecting to do work on both sides steering clutches and brakes. The previous owner informed me he did the left side brake band and clutches last year. He thought maybe he damaged an oil seal when putting it back together so will need to look at that. He said the right side brake band needs to be done. As I said I expect to do the clutches also while I have it apart.

I would appreciate some thoughts on what maybe happening when pulling the right side steering lever. There is absolutely no response when pulling the right side lever until it is almost all the way into my lap. When fully applied both tracks completely stop and the engine does not drop in RPM.

Left side steering seems to work pretty good.

When I applied the foot brake, only the left side brakes and the machine turns to the left.

Looking for a 4 in 1 bucket and winch in Western Canada if anyone has some thoughts on that.

Thank You
Mike B

Thanks for the quick response jtrichard. Much appreciated. First track machine for me so it's all new. Was suspecting what you said. Do you think the fibre clutches will have to be replaced on that left side?

the pressure plate may not have been adjusted when it was put in if so then you might luck out BUT if its oil you will have to replace the fibers

Thanks again jtrichard. Some food for thought for sure. Hopefully I will be getting started this week. Will try the adjustments before tearing things down just to start learning that process.

Tough to find a winch or 4 in one bucket here in Alberta.

Try the service manual adjustments first, but most likely if the clutch is slipping you need to pull the final drive and rebuilt the steering clutch. If your mechanically inclined, have the book and ask questions shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the response Jason. I would appreciate it if you would let me know if you here of or see a winch or 4 in1 bucket not to far away.

I will try the adjustments first but I'm pretty sure your right on the rebuild of the clutch. Who would you recommend for parts close to us here in Alberta?
