undercarriage swap

Post by danny G » Thu Aug 20, 2015 2:19 pm

I have an early model 2010 . Found a late model near by with a better undercarriage but does not run and has had a few parts sold off of it he wants 1000$ and will deliver it.. can I swap entire undercarriage?. Has other things I need like front skid plate and floorboards . Any thoughts..... thanks

All you need to swap is the sprockets when you swap the tracks (i.e. the early and late S/N sprockets are different)- all else should interchange. Keep in mind that undercarriage wears as a unit so depending on condition you may want to swap other undercarriage parts as well.

$1000 is a cheap parts machine so if you can get the whole thing it may be well worth it to have a spare HLR and engine. You are definitely getting your money's worth with the undercarriage because you can't even get late-model sprockets to the undercarriage swap anymore unless you luck onto a late model parts machine like you did.

Something to think about, would it be easier to put your engine in the other dozer? Just an idea>

I thought about it but . It doesn't have a loader or left steering clutch is gone and radiator .a few other things ..it was a part machine for a bit .. but it has a lot of stuff I need .like skid plat and floor boards. Undercarige is most important to me ..engine only good for part's.. ben sitting a wile ..The rest of my crawler is ok . A few minor things

Hi,

Sounds like a terrific deal there. Do yourself a favor when you get it. Shove it under a pole barn and set it on boards. Keeps the rust formation down.

Or, given it is pieces of a sort to start with, plop it on boards and then build a simple pole barn over it! :P
