Gearmatic winch - clutch engagement

Post by Paul Buhler » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:31 pm

I've been having a nice discussion with another member who is rebuilding an 8a winch, and now we are wondering how the secondary clutch band is activated. The primary band shows a pocket for the "push rod" on one side and the clutch cylinder is attached to the lever arm pushing on the other side, but the secondary appears to only have contact with the lever arm. What are we missing? We've been referencing the threads below for the pictures and comments, and the manual. Thanks. Paul

The small band is a activated by the slave cylinder, the large band is activated by the small band.

How much can I expect to spend rebuilding a 8A like this? + the bearing bore of my adapter plate is damaged...

Thanks

Thanks.
When I get into the clutch bands to have them relined, I'll look to see how this happens. Paul

Depends on how deep you have to go, but for a complete rebuild, not hard to spend $1000.

If I look at the general tendency of my rebuild, I guess it's gonna go deep!
