So my 455g is direct drive and has an inching pedal that is kinda like a clutch I guess. Is it meant to be used when starting out? Or changing from forward to reverse? Or when approaching something delicately? I know if your up or downshifting you don't need any pedal assistance but what's the main purpose of that pedal? Also I've never used the idle pedal other than to see what it does. What situation calls for that pedal?

I have a 2010 HLR same basic thing im guessing and the only thing i use the "pedal " for is "approaching something delicately" i do if in high rev "pause" in neutral when going from forward to reverse or vice versa

You only have a brake a decelerator and a dumper clutch on a direct drive G series the brake is for stop or slowing down on tight work and the dumper clutch is for inching in close it dumps oil out of the clutch packs depending on how hard you hit it .Then as the throttle is found on most machines a crawler will use this other type of throttle control known as a decelerator to slow down the engine A lot of people have fun getting used to a decelerator as it works backwards to a accelerator .If you run a crawler long enough you will understand why this decelerator is like this but after many years of running crawlers I still find my self getting back in the truck after a days work and my mind has to quick adjust to an accelerator again I mean hell I have been doing this for 45 years and I still get in the pickup and go dam this is different!!. But that is the way it is some times I think it is there to make you glad you got an accelerator in your pick up I think ! I got a little TD8H Dresser dozer recently and it has the decelerator and break in one what a heck of an idea this combines two paddles and then you only need a decelerator it is nearly a crawler dozer/loader exclusive but every one use it in them . Digitup.
decelerator would be nice but 2010 only has hand throttle ....digitup i know how it is to be on a machine all day and your on your way home tired ....i have an adams road grader and use the wheel lean to offset the pull then i find myself in my pickup going down the road and it pulls a little one way or the other and i reach up for the wheel lean to stop the pulling OPPS

450G operation
I only use the clutch when loading it up on our trailer or backfilling in tight quarters. Otherwise use the decelerator for shifting forward to reverse, plus on gear changes if past about 50% engine speed.

Thanks. Ill try using the decel pedal for f to r gear changes tonite. Over the last couple weeks I've been getting bridge demo from a state project just down the road and I've been putting some good hours on her nights. pushing and tracking it in. The contractor has done a great job of mixing the material in and its all free. Can't beat it!
