Final Drive Question
Final Drive Question
I am new to this sight I posted a question under the show and tell section by mistake the question is about the bottom bearings in the final drive they were full of twine and if you move the crawler it will move ahead but will stop if you back up a foot or so it will then move ahead again. does this sound like the bearings are toast or do I have to go deeper . thanks
Drain the oil out of that final drive and pull the pan off of it. Parts and pieces in the pan will tell you more about whats going on in there then looking will. I bought my 420C with a destroyed right hand final drive, it would move about 10 feet then lock up. I pulled the pan off of it and cleaned the pieces of bearing out of it and it would move better then.

About the only part of the final drive that was not ruined was the axle itself.
I had to find a complete final drive to replace the one that was broken.
I am puttering at getting all the parts for the restoration of the crawler right now, I am setting up a sandblasting tent to give me a place to sandblast and paint in this year.
