Tracks for 450B
Anyone have experience with replacing worn tracks with used track?
Can't justify $4k for new chains/grousers.
Would have to have been taken off of a loader.
Where would one find used track chains?
Sprockets and rollers must have been replaced because they are in good condition.
Sprockets look almost new.

The problem with that is, you already have used tracks, nothing says the ones you might get are any better. If you do it, you will have to make very sure of the condition of the tracks you are getting, or you may not gain anything. The other "problem" may be that if a set of used tracks you find is not worn out, they will likely be priced accordingly, may not save you any money in the long run if you plan on owning the crawler long term. Are your pads good enough to get by with just rails, that would cut the price considerably.

Pads could use replacement too.
New tracks would cost considerably more than I gave for the machine.
Do plan on keeping it.
It runs well after a few repairs.

IF you plan on keeping it, and you gave less for the crawler than a set of tracks, I would put new ones on, you got the crawler cheap. Whatever you pay for tracks, you will add most of that to the value of the crawler, you don't see 450's normally sell as cheap as you got that one. Even if you could find a set of used tracks look good, the pins and bushings might be bad, or close to it. Or, if you find a set that everything is good, they will probably cost half or more the price of a new set. Not that there are not bargains out there, you might find a good set cheap.

Thanks for the advice.
I did get it cheap. It wasn't running when purchased.
The previous owner had passed on. His heirs simply wanted rid of it.
A service manual, help from this forum, setting the timing train correctly, and a water pump rebuild kit solved the problem.
It runs well and doesn't smoke.
Cheapest price on new aftermarket tracks (rails and grousers) I have found is about $2K each. Didn't ask JD dealer.

A good set of tracks for $1K...
Would take a big winch to pull the smile off my face if I found a set in that price range.
Could you PM the name of this company?
