555 with cracked trans

Post by jadams » Thu Aug 13, 2009 11:51 am

Hello all, I'm a newby to posting on this board, but I've been reading it on and off for about 2 years. I'm thinking about buying a 555 crawler loader with a backhoe with a crack in the trasmission case. The current owner said that its a good size crack and there is no fluid coming out of it at the moment. He claims he bought it like this and was going to have it welded but someone told him to patch it with jb weld just to make shure the trans is still ok. He didn't and now he is trying to unload it. In your opinion, is it worth my time and money to buy this machine and either patch the crack, or change the trans case? What would cause a crack in the case to begin with? Any insight on this would be very helpful. thanks

It depends where it is that it's cracked .I my self would only buy this cheap as you should replace the housing and take a good look inside at components but the machine should be repairable if you have the patience and the time .Digitup.
