Rippers

Post by BKahler » Fri Nov 09, 2007 3:44 pm

I'm curious as to whether any of you have built your own ripper setup for your crawlers. Following are some assumptions I'm making on how you would go about doing so. Keep in mind my crawler doesn't have a rock shaft or 3-point hitch bars. So whatever I would need to do would have to be fabricated by me. That is unless someone has those assemblies they'd like to donate to the cause :)

Assumptions of what I'll have to deal with:

1) design and build something similar to a rockshaft.
2) design and build 3-point hitch arms.
3) mount a hydraulic cylinder to pull the rockshaft arms up and down
4) design and build a ripper bar (probably use tangs as used on a box blade)

Gee, I guess that’s about it. Did I leave anything else out of this mess?!!

Thanks,

Brad

Brad,
There are easier ways to do it. The aftermarket scarifiers use a drawbar similar to a 3PT drawbar. The ripper arms hook to the bottom of the drawbar, and a cylinder/s hook up higher and actuate the scarifier. I think I have one aftermarket scarifier mount left.

Lavoy,

Out of curiosity how much does an aftermarket scarifier mount cost?

I'm sure once my wife finds out I'm asking information like this she'll shoot me

Brad,
Let me see if I even have one. I am chasing Bambi this weekend, so won't get much else done. Send me an e-mail so I don't forget and I will check on it on Monday.
