85 450e clutch adjustments

Post by drssink » Tue Jun 03, 2025 4:49 pm

Machine runs strong, pushes great However:

I know clutch pedal isn't adjusted correctly way to much freeplay so also guessing the other clutch adjustmentsin under floorboards aren't either.
Dozer steering clutches work iniatally then its turning with brakes only when warmed up good. Going forward uphill steering clutches work fine. Backing uphill takes a long....... time for reverse to kick in. Trans gets really hot after running about an hour so have to shut down and let cool down (not good)

So I have manual and understand how to adjust clutch pedal freeplay and clutch adjusment under floor boards to "Book" spec. Unfortunately for me the "plug" for the attaching the pressure test gauge won't come out and its in a crazy location to get extraction tools lined up with plug/hole.
Pretty sure the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing are working correctly. The HLR shifter is set correctly and engages correctly.
If somehow I figure out a way to get plug out then my question is mute but don't have a lot of confidence in that happening unless I take entire top off transmission which I really..really don't want to do. Also have no idea if pressure valve has shims under cap. Don't think the trans is messed up just not getting enough trans fluid pressure flow

Question is: If I adjust clutch pedal to spec and the other clutch adjustments to spec without the pressure test gauge will I really mess anything up worse? (doesn't work right now out of adjustment)

Any help/advise will be much appreciated!
