Pinion shaft selection
Pinion shaft selection
Hey just wondering if any one has had to replace final drive shaft on straight 350 model? In parts catalog it is showing two different ones depending on SN’s. Wondering what the difference would be in them. Having trouble getting bearings to tighten up on one and thinking shaft may be worn. Thanks for any help!!!
Re: Pinion shaft selection
Parts catalog shows different bearings and pinion gears with the same serial number break as applies to the shaft, so I would say sizing and maybe spline differences in some areas of the two shafts.
Re: Pinion shaft selection
Should the inner and outer cone bearings fit tight on this shaft? Mine will bottom out with only a couple light taps. I have so much play after reassembling that the brake drum rubs final drive housing. Not sure what to do next. Thinking maybe shaft has spun some in old bearings or have possibly the wrong bearings?
Re: Pinion shaft selection
Inner bearing will be fairly tight, outer will really take some effort to install.

Re: Pinion shaft selection
Guys I really appreciate the advice! There is a ton of experience on this website. Is there a way to repair shaft or get tighter fitting bearings or is it best to replace shaft?
Re: Pinion shaft selection
Shaft is hardened, no repair for the most part. I usually can get new shafts if you need to go that way.
