Throwout bearing adjustment

Post by ironyetty » Wed Nov 07, 2007 2:34 pm

I just recently reinstalled my reverser, tranny and the finals with all rebuilt parts. After everything was put together I began to adjust my steering clutches and brakes. For some reason the throwout bearing is clicking when I pull back a little extra on the steering lever and the throwout bearing is getting marked up I assume by the fingers on the clutch pack. Everything is egaging it just seems to mark up the bearing pretty bad. It is a brand new bearing and clutch pack.

What do I need to do to fix this problem? Is it possible I just need to adjust the brakes and clutch pack better so I don't have to pull back so far to engage everything? Or maybe the stops are just wore out to the point that they don't stop it from over traveling.

Thanks in advance,
Cliff

Cliff,
The throwout bearing and brakes should start engagin when the tip of the steering lever is about 1 5/8" back from the dash. If you are getting more than that, you are out of adjustment somewhere.
