1010 Final Drive

I built a puller (pusher) for the axle according to the service manual. After I removed the pipe plugs, I found that the threaded holes in the bull gear do not line up to allow the threaded legs of the puller to screw in. They are just off ever so much. Has anyone else ever found this?

What about using the 7/16" holes where the cap screws for the quill? Would this be strong enough for this push?

Any other ideas?
