final drive case

Post by tomcat4144 » Sat Sep 10, 2005 11:34 am

a friend broke his final drive case on his 420c. i believe it is broken across across where the upper shaft bearing quill bolts on. i have not seen it. i dont know if it would be possible to weld it up as the tolerence is so specific there. he is looking for a new case and found one for $450.00
is this a good price? does anyone know where he can get one for less?

I highly doubt he found a new one for $450, that is about the bottom for a used one. There were supposed to be some new ones around years ago, but I have never seen one, and the prices I heard were in the $800-$1000 range.
If he is not concerned as much with looks, I may have a case that has a cosmetic repair or chip someplace for less.

final drive case

Lavoy,

i should have specified it was a used case. i did not know some one had made new cases, but he is not concerned with looks. if it does what it is supposed to do, then it is fine with him. if you have a price on a used one you may have, let me know and i will tell him. he`s even worse than me, on doing things on the cheap!

Thanks, Tim

Tim,
Do you know what serial number crawler he is working on? Send me an e-mail with the info, and I will try and check on a case tomorrow if I am home.

Tim,
I think I have an early case that is for that crawler. It has a non visible repair, $300 + freight.

Lavoy,

i passed the word on to his wife, he is in the hospital overnight and will be home tomorrow evening. hes an old feller and has had a stroke recent, so he has a bit of a slur to his speech, but understandable.

thanks for your help, Tim
