440 problems worse than before

Post by the crawler kid » Sun Sep 16, 2007 10:10 am

today we got up early, put on our work clothes and set to work determined to get our 440 running. Well after about two and half hours we did. The hydraulic pump was in, the hydraulic filter was cleaned, all the fluids were up to the proper level, and the backhoe hoses were attached(this not occuring is what blew the last pump, or so we thought). Then we lifted the bucket and SUCCESS it worked and we played around with it a little, but to our later dismay we did not prop it back up, as not to hold water. Then we got ambitous and tried the backhoe. It didnt work at first, then we pulled the selector valve to switch hydraulics to the backhoe, moved the lever and BOOM!!!! our hydraulic pump not only cracked but connection to the hydraulic pump blew out and split in two. It has taken us a year to make this progress and may never recover it as finding a hydraulic pump was nearly impossible the first time. I f anyone has any suggestions or help we believe that it is the selector valve. We would greatly appreciate this Thanks

You need to find out if that machine has a relief valve on it, and take it apart and see if someone has monkeyed with it.

we did check for releif valves and opened them, the backhoe was not original and later attached but the hydraulic lines were rerouted to what looks to be properly with john deere parts

Are you using a Deere hoe? One possibility I can think of is if the hoe itself has been converted to closed center hyd. If so, it would effectivedly be the same as having a block in the line.
