440’s at work

Post by jimmydiesel » Wed Jun 04, 2025 9:47 pm

I have 3 440’s that are currently work wise. My father in-law has built roads most of his life. He has moved and is living with us.
So we have been busy working around the shop and in the back yard.

Still chasing oil leaks, worn out hydraulic cylinders, broken front idlers, overheating etc, etc, etc
We are getting a lot of dirt moved and are having fun.

The 440ICD 602. ( Ole Smoky ) hadn’t got to play for the last couple months so we put him to work again.

My grandson, 10 and granddaughter,4 were visiting for a few days so I was training the next generation of operators.
After going over the controls I sat behind the grandson and we moved back and forth a few times turning right and left. Then we started pushing a little dirt.

After 15 minutes he seemed to be figuring it out so I got off and let him practice.

We came back the next day and reviewed the controls and he operated it for an hour and a half.

The 4 year old granddaughter thought the dozer was too loud but she wanted to drive the backhoe.

Very enjoyable few days.
