rear main seal tool
rear main seal tool
Hello i purchased a tool to install the rear main seal on my JD 350. It seems the bolts are about .25-or so to long on the first part that you attach to the main crank .I'm assuming to start the seating of the main seal that the first part of the tool should be tight against the main crank. I watched the video, and it looks to be no slop in the one he is using. Don't think its a big problem to get shorter mounting screws. I just want to confirm that first part of the tool should be tot against main crank.
Re: rear main seal tool
You are correct, the "base" of the tool needs to bolt tight to the end of the crankshaft, so the new seal is pushed in to the correct depth. As you tighten it align the OD of the base as close as you can to the OD of the crank. You can try the press part over it to see that it slides on over the crank OD, after bolting the base up without the seal as a dry run.

Thanks figures crossed all back together and fires up. I think she sounds good but I'm going to run it and get the break in done then ill haul it back north and install. The press tool i had was junk and caused me a lot of pain. I finally got it done and no leak as of yet so far so good.
