$3500 won't buy anything as far as a new dozer, neither will $35,000. If cost is your concern, then resurrecting a 65 year old crawler is not the way to go. But, keep in mind, buying a 30 year old crawler will bring with it the same issues possibly as what you are looking at right now.

Considering the cost of NEW...unless you are interested in starting a new construction business...why would you need a new machine costing well over 10 to 50k? These older machines are certainly still usable for anyone that is NOT running these things 365 days a year. Even if you run this thing to destruction in 10 years the net cost...if even 10k invested....is $1000 per year which is less than a pack of cigarettes a day for a year @ $5.63 el cheapo each.
Get REAL!
Not withstanding getting to know all about the machine and satisfaction of rebuilding something for your own use and satisfaction as well as getting eddicated ( i like slang...educated) at the same time about the machine or something new and you certainly will get educated from these. Just be careful they are dangerous!...read all stories in the posts! They are for education.

It was parked 25 +/- years ago becuase it had drive issues you could only turn in one direction mostly. I was getting harded and harder to start and in the end they just could start it.

It think is mosly good but experiance says it wil be a can of worms

Its been in the same family from new. Its the boss's pride and joy and he was wating for retirement to fix. But when your running a semi decent size company at close to 80......
