ROPS mount

Post by Kolot » Tue May 13, 2025 8:33 pm

I have the straight 350 6 way inside blade no ROPS. I have a cage but no mounts and want to get it onto the machine. I know how I can make brackets to mount the rear. Does anyone have 1 they would post some pictures of how the front of the cage is mounted to the frames?

Someone may be around at some point with pictures for you. In the meantime.

I believe the straight 350 was before the ROPS requirements so any that have ROPS are retrofits. Without a given manufacturer's info for mounting their structure one doesn't have any idea of structure strength, as the entire system had to be engineered and tested. Canopies that are not certified ROPS, don't need the same level of certification.

There are some pictures on the web if you search John Deere 350 crawler, look at the ones for sale on Equipment Trader, Machinery Trader, etc. There is info on ROPS and mountings used in the online catalogs that might help you. As it appears JD now has ROPS shown in the online parts catalogs for all the 350 series machines, I think any of the 350 series would be similar for mounting a Canopy to an inside blade machine, from a quick look at the parts catalogs. It looks like the JD ones used 4-bolt brackets bolted to the side of the blade mounting frame, behind and below the lift cylinder rear pin.

I know it's not much help but some places to look while you are waiting.

I am in the same boat. According to the parts catalog, the 350 through 350C use the same ROPS. I just picked up a ROPS that came off of a 350C dozer yesterday. There are 2 rear brackets that bolt to the back of the machine on either side of the drawbar and my 350 does have those mounting holes.
I am unsure of the front, I dont see holes for the front of the ROPS to mount to. My plan is to bolt the rear brackets and use the front loader of my tractor to set the rops down onto the dozer and see what the front looks like.

I would be interested in seeing a picture of the front mounting as well if anyone has a machine available to snap some photos.

I mentioned web search this morning here are a couple videos (and you can find more) that show a couple different mounts attached to the frame of the inside dozer below and behind the blade lift cylinders. Mounts will vary with the canopy manufacturer; it's not a one mount for all.

The ROPS i purchased is a JD manufactured ROPS. It mounts up just like the one in the first 350C video you posted. Looking at mine, it does not have the holes in the bracket that the cylinder is bolted to. Ill have to torch those holes out it looks like.

I am sure you know this, but those holes should be drilled. torched holes can lead to cracking, quicker than drilled holes.

I may be using the term Rops interchangeable with canopy, I figured they were both rated for protection in the event of a roll. Hard to get a good view in most online pictures but those links are pretty good. So it looks like it will need to just bolt to the side plate for the dozer blade with some custom angles for brackets. Doesn't help the one I have is heavy and large diameter, came off a 450 but it's close . like to have the canopy for a few reasons if not to just shed some rain.

I have a friend who has the 350c that has the Rops , I was able to go over and get some good pictures of the front mounts on his. I cut my brackets from 6x6 x 1/2" angle iron. I cut the leg on the angle that mounts to the dozer down to 4 " the other leg remains at 6 till I mount the cage, I will then cut any excess off. I drilled and tapped the dozer for 4 -1/2" bolts. Got to love a mag drill.
on the 350 his cage sits on the bracket just behind the lift hyd. cylinder and about even with the bottom of the hyd. cylinder mount and just fits between the cylinder mount and the step board , diameter on his cage is 2 1/4" mine is off a 450 and has a diameter of 3". so I will either have to notch the step just a touch, or put a little pedestal on it, 450s I have seen the cage mounts over and above the lift cylinder.
