JD 455G backhoe

Post by Blueoval77 » Tue May 13, 2025 9:57 am

OK , so I have searched and searched and found tons of information but most of it broken or wrong . I did find a list of Hoe attachments on this board which led me to register but the one I think I need is missing from the list. Let me start by saying that im not a novice at making things work where they shouldnt , building things , etc . Not bragging , just giving some perspective . So I am looking at what I believe is a 9250 series Hoe attachment for a crawler . It seems there are variants of the 9250 the "A" and so forth . I am reading that there is a good chance that it is for a "Closed spool" system. But does that apply to all variants of the 9250 line ? I have a 455G and ive been shopping for a Hoe attachment which has proven uite challenging . Everything you find is flat wore out. Can ANYONE here shine some light on what challenges I may face trying to get this 9250 to work properly on my loader ? My loader is Hoe ready so thats all there . I like that the 9250 has the swing cylinders and not the doughnut and the one I am looking at is in fairly decent shape . The owner says he was using this on an old 1010 dozer if that information is of any use.

Thanks for yout time reading this , its the most valuable thing we have and I do apreciate any help anyone can give.

Okay so if memory serves, the 9250 should have open center hydraulics. You mentioned that the seller had this on a 1010 which should also be open center hydraulics. I'm thinking you would be okay with mounting it on your 455. But I could be wrong!!

Like you I couldn't find much about the 9250. We had several of them mounted on various machines from 350 and 450 crawlers to 300, 301, 401 tractors.

Some of those valve stacks like they use on the 9250 were convertible. You can change a cap on the return end of the stack that makes them either open or closed center. You might check with a hydraulics dealer and see if they can tell you if they are or not. I think they are Gresen valves so a dealer that handles them should be able to tell you on that.

Check with "Northern Hydraulics" ( 800-823-4937 ) See what they say about it.

Welcome to the Boards. Be aware of the fact that your 455G is very much on the new side of what most of us here are familiar with, so you may not be overwhelmed with info.

The 455G uses gear pumps, it is open center. The 1010s were open center. Leonard has headed you in the right direction.

You will be building mounts I expect. You need the proper tie in points for supply and return on your 455G. You cannot just tee into the supply and return of an open center system. You may need a power beyond arrangement for your 455G, if provisions are not there now to tie a hoe into the system.

Do you have the manuals for your 455G? They may give you the answers. TM1403 is the Technical (service) Manual for Testing and Operation. It has the system details, tech specs, testing info and operational checks and trouble shooting. TM1404 is the Repair Manual and has the nuts-and-bolts info of repairs. You need both manuals. The Operator's manual for the 455g loader is OMT163973. Parts catalog is PC2154.

You may need to see if your dealer has info on where to tie a hoe in on a 455G.

If the backhoe is a 9250 the Technical Manual is TM1026. The Operator's manual for a 9250 on a 350B/450B is OMT39490 (I expect that is as close to a 455G as you will get for the 9250 on a 455G. Its parts catalog is PC1105. I can't say for sure but it looks like the 9250A was primarily used on wheel tractors.

You can use the John Deere publication numbers to search online (like eBay) for used OEM manuals. You can get free PDF downloads of the Operator's Manuals at the JD Construction and Forestry Bookstore . You can save the download to your device to use and print as you wish. All the other manuals there are purchase items.

The "free to use" parts catalogs can be found online at JD parts , if you don't know about the online catalogs.

Thanks a ton , thats good news about the hydraulics. My 455 had a hoe on it at some point of its life so the hoses are there just connected to one another behind the rear panel and of course I have the machine end of the mounting bracket on there.. The mounting bracket is NOT the same as mine on the Hoe side ? It looks the same but I guess the dimms could be off. I will measure all of that prior too anyway , the hydraulics were my big concern as google gave me the impression that this model Hoe was Closed center. Thanks again for the info , very helpful...
