555-A made in Germany
555-A made in Germany
I recently came into possession of a 555-A crawler that was made in Germany. It isn't a 555A. The serial number is too low. I purchased an owners manual and attempted to replace all of the filters. The illustrations in the manual do not match this machine. Where can I find the location of the filters for this machine?
Re: 555-A made in Germany
There can be differences between the North American and the European machines, so the NA manuals may not be correct. Some pictures and the serial number might help sort this out. For the NA crawlers if the serial number model is stamped 555A it is an A series. If it is stamped 555(space)A it is a 555 and the A stands for loader configuration.
Re: 555-A made in Germany
Thank you for the advice. The manuals indicate that the hydraulic brake filters are under the seat. The seat on this crawler is fixed to a welded plate and there are no filters below it. Any idea where the filters are located?
Re: 555-A made in Germany
Hydraulic brake filters are nothing I can find for the 555s and 555As built in North America. The 555 and 555A only show the transmission filter as related to the steering/brakes in the parts catalogs I can access.
No guarantee they would help but some pictures of this machine, including the serial number tag might help find something more for you. You have to use a third-party hosting site (like IMGUR or Postimages) to add pictures here. Or contact Lavoy and set up an account on the sites dedicated picture server. There is some info about it on the "Messageboard Q&A and Announcements" board.
What is your general location? You can add that to your profile, there might be someone near you to take a look.
What are the John Deere publication numbers of the manuals you are using?

Re: 555-A made in Germany
The crawler is near Roanoke Virginia. The manual was an online copy of the original 555 operator manual.

To give you an idea of what you are up against, read through this old thread about a European 450.

As I posted before the North American manuals may not work for the machine you have. Some pictures might help the guys here give you suggestions including a picture of the serial number tag.
