420c starter rebuild parts?

Starter on my 420c just died. Ran fine earlier today, but nothing when I tried to restart it. No noise at all, but I think the dash light was diming or going out when I pull the knob. Multimeter to the starter terminal looked fine, but I pulled the battery cables & cleaned them up anyway, no change.

Pulled the starter & hit it briefly with a 12v jump starter pack, same results, no spinning, spark or noise. Not clear if the jump starter was happy though or faulting out. Removed the starter button & same nothing directly to the contact stud. Starter button is a little crusty looking & I can't clean the back side of the contacts, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Haven't disassembled it further or gone after it with the multimeter.

Any recommendations for a rebuild kit or good instructions? Looking around I see rebuilt ones for around $450 with a $100 core charge or a rebuild parts kit on eBay for $120.

I have a rebuilt or new on hand depending on serial number, I think close on your price. A rebuild kit for $120 is really highly inadequate. It might make it go round and round, but it will never be good as it should be. Good kit is $225-$250 depending on starter.

Set screw or 2 bolt mount?

It's got the 1 funky cone Allan screw on the side with a lock nut.
