tank heater

Post by Keith-OR » Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:25 pm

Parts manual shows a tank heater with all parts to install on the 1010 145ci diesel engine, does anyone a
have or know how it is hooked up to the engine. Any drawing or diagram would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Keith

Good morning Keith,

I'll don't have a 1010 but I will take a shot at this, hopefully someone who has or has had a working one will be along. From the parts catalog, a couple web searches, and some old posts here (and other sites); it looks like the block drain at the left front of the engine was used for the cold coolant inlet hose connection. Here's a link to an on line picture: [url][https://www.bing.com/images/search?view ... hist=0/url] .

Then from posts I read, that picture (I could not find a picture of the actual attachment point), and the parts catalog. I believe the temperature gauge probe and bushing were removed from the back of the thermostat housing/coolant manifold and the tee installed in place of them. I would look for the temp gauge probe, but if not the temp gauge there is a 3/8 or 1/2 NPT port somewhere in that area (might have something in it, thus the tee). The temp gauge bushing and probe goes back into the straight branch of the tee and the hot coolant outlet hose of the heater goes in to side branch of the tee. Not ideal to me, I'd like to see the hot coolant go in further from the thermostat but it doesn't look like there are any options on these (but I won't say I didn't miss something). HTH
Jim

I went and took a close look at the diesel engine on my 1010 and the only place I see to install the hoses from the tank heater is the drain valve on the lower left front of engine and the temperature sending unit on the thermostat housing. So I guess that is rhe places I will use for the tank heater.

thanks for your info
Keith

You want the inlet to the heater in the lowest location you can find, and the outlet from the heater in the highest. Drain plug is a great place to put a hose barb in, should come with a new heater. In the past, I have used a tee at the sending unit location for the outlet. Don't oversize, a 750 watt heater is great plenty for the 1010.
