Putting my transmission back together on my 440. The manual calls for a end play tolerance of .002-.004 on the shafts, how crutial is this? I set them in and shimed till I had just a tiny amount of play, I don't have a dial indicator but I will get one if this is that crutial? Anyone shed some light on this situation for me?
Thanks in advance,
Cliff

You need a dial indicator.

If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer.

I checked the shafts once I got the dial indicator, not bad at the guess I was only about a .001 strong on the tolerance. I knew better when I posted the question just didn't have a dial indicator handy and was wanting to get the thing back together.
Thanks,
Cliff
