New Member doing research on a JD350C

Hello. First I should say that I am located in Texas and the JD350C is in Northern Maine. My father recently traded for a 350 with trailer and I have been doing a lot of research for him. I will post a few pic (pics are current-date is off). It runs and drives like is should.

I have been reading through many different posts about the 350C and soaking as much knowledge I can from this board-for that I thank y'all. Manuals are next on the list.

His 350 has a different serial number than most, at least as I believe and am curious as to why. I have found only one reference to such a serial number in all my readings and that post did not have a response. Thread below....

His plate reads: T0350CE704402 then stamped 84. All the serial numbers and year ranges I read on here are much lower numbers. I am assuming this is was built in 1984 but the serial is throwing me for a loop. Is this the right plate- not altered? Could Is this a relife plate (of which I know nothing about...lol)? If it is a relife how can one tell the original date of manufacture. I am trying to get a pic of the engine plate trying to explain of the phone is tough.

Hour meter. Where is it supposed to be? He cannot find one. I thought it was on the seat bottom heel kickplate, but he says not there?

Just trying to get my father some good info on his crawler. I can get better pics if needed as well. I will be up in Nov and will be able to look at in better detail. Thanks y'all.

Hi,

They changed the way they did serial numbers during 1985. Yours is right at the tail end of the 350C production at 703xxx. They went to the 350D in 1985 at serial 723603.

Edit: I have added a note in the 350 Serial Number list in the FAQ section noting there are some 350C units sporting 700000 range serial numbers out there.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate the info on the serial number and the fact that they switched format at the end of production. I think it is strange that I could not find that info anywhere.

Where would the hour meter be located? I have seen many pics in my searches but only of the meter, not it's placement on the crawler. I really wish I could check this our in person and look but he swears there is no hole where one would have been.

November I will check it out in person and I am sure I will have more questions.

Hour meter should be on the plate behind the gear shift that spans between they battery box and hydraulic tank.(or as you called it a kick-plate) Left hand side sitting in seat. The plate is actually in the one picture you took with the seat off. They are electrically operated off the key switch.
I thought hourmeter was standard equipment, but funnier things have happened

Hi,

These all had electric hour meters, and they tend to go bad and emit acrid smoke. So they are quite often removed as the stink remains even after the wires are cut loose. They stuck it right under the operator, so one would be always smelling that stink when sitting right above it.
