1010 stuck track frames

Post by mini kahuna » Sun Sep 20, 2015 4:41 pm

for the last three weeks been dealing with a 1010,trying to remove track frames and they are fused to the rear cross bar.
I have read most of the posts on this subject and have found some good ideas but nothing to date has gotten them to break their hold.
Lavoy has also been coaching me and given me several ideas but they still are fused together like one piece.
Lavoy's tip of pressure washing has eaten away a lot of crap that is packed in there...they still won't give.
anybody recently been threw this problem and gotten them to let go......right now I feel like I am attempting the impossible!!!!!

Try some heat using a rosebud tipped torch. Its done wonders for me working on these old girls......

It won't take too much heat to get it done. Just enough to discolor the metal to a grey color, you shouldn't have to get it glowing red by any means.... too much heat can do some damage!!!!

Believe it or not I have used dry ice to free up stuck metal parts- it can cause local contraction of parts and have the same localized effect on breaking up rust or crud as heating. However when it has been successful for me is relative thin steel parts like stuck brake drums on autos- I don't know that it would work with more massive steel and iron like on a crawler crossframe. I would go with heating using a Rosebud if you have it but another potential option to consider.
