350 reverser question
350 reverser question
Hello, I have just purchased a 1966 JD 350 with a 6 way blade with 3335 hrs. This machine is a 3 cyl gas / 4 speed with reverse tranny. Now my issue is that when trying to push it just stops. I have the manual and have done all the pressure checks. 25 psi- good, 95 psi- good, I have 120 psi while in the reverse direction, 120 psi in the neutral position, and 60 psi in the foward position. I have checked both the clutch and shuttle linkages and they are working properly. I have changed the fluid and filter and also cleaned all the pressure valves. There was alot of metal shavings in the filter and old fluid. Also adjusted the rate of shift screw. The clutches engage in the right amount of time in reverse, but are slow in forward and when they do engage there seems to be a vibration which goes away when shifted to neutral and reverse. Is there anything I can do other than to rebuild the reverser? THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE

350 direction reverser
sounds like the forward clutch pack is slipping, if forward & reverse packs are fed by the same pressure regulating device then the lower pressure of the forward pack might indicate a leak. it's been about 5 yrs. since I overhauled mine
