440 icd oil filter, sock type?? or paper type?

Post by 440icd » Mon Sep 25, 2006 10:09 am

Late model 440, 253 Detroit
I have been looking and found a few oil filters for this 2-53.
It looks like there were several toy filter used???
I pulled mine, it looks like a sock typ filter, is this correct, or should it be that NAPA 1006 this one looks like its a paper type.
Can't seem to find a part number for the sock typ.
Thanks
Scott

Oil filter is NAPA 1100
Fuel Filer is NAPA 3513

That is what I have in my 440ICD

I just changed the oil in my 2-53 recently. I used a NAPA 1100 replacement filter. The one I pulled out was a WIX 51100. Unless you know something bad about these, it appeared to be working and fit fine. It looks similar to the NAPA 1100 with a little handle at the top.
Thanks for the new alternate on the fuel filter from NAPA. Detroit Diesel still sells the original 5196048 too.

The fuel filter that I am going to use is paper. It is the original one from Detroit Diesel.
The oil filter is a metal container with holes in it and a little handle on the top to help pull it out of the canister. Both the NAPA and the WIX are made basically the same.

Both the fuel and the oil filter from NAPA are paper filters in a metal canister. I think in a previous post someone actually went to the website of the original fuel filter housing manufacturer and cross-referenced the fuel filter so I think it is correct. It certainly fit well when I installed it.

I believe the composition of the filter is irrelevant. Install whatever filter number is correct for the application you are putting it in, don't just interchange filters based on what they look like.
