LOL, girlfriends and wives are pretty funny when it comes to airplanes sometimes!
I had a friend once that the first time he went to give his then girlfriend a ride, she called the ride off when she saw him pulling the airplane out of the hangar with one hand. (They eventually got married so I guess she got over it).
My best personal story was when I was dating my wife many moons ago, I had to give a checkout to a guy one morning in an old Luscombe 8A, and the weather was pretty crappy and drizzly at the time. I knew I had a keeper when she was looking out the window and said to me ¨Drive carefully!"as I was leaving.
The Skyraider is sure a lot of airplane.

The more I think about it, I don't think I have ever seen an A-1 in person, but could be wrong.

The A-1 skyraider or "Spad" as it was commonly called in the Navy, was indeed quite an airplane. The Air Force flew them under the call sign of "Sandy" for rescap. The last Navy attack squadron flew in about 1967. My instructor in the T34 at Saufly Field was a Spad driver.
What is most impressive is to come alongside and see all the weapons hanging from the pylons. If I had money to throw away, I would have one. My friend who goes to a lot of airshows always sticks on a couple of drop tanks for extra fuel when he goes to a military airshow. They top it off with free gas when he leaves.

Hell of a deal, $6/gallon or more gas on an engine that is probably burning 40 gallons an hour at cruise, but man, what a way to cruise!
I ever win the lottery, that is at the top of the list.
